CLEVELAND – UPDATE: A Cleveland woman is facing felony charges after a wreck that injured her and critically hurt her 6-year-old son Sunday night.

Elizabeth Tooley, 35, of Cleveland was driving a white 2015 Ford Focus south on Ga. 75 (Helen Highway) near Pine Hill Drive in Cleveland at the time of the single-vehicle crash, according to Cpl. Spencer Munger of Georgia State Patrol Post 6 in Gainesville.

Tooley’s car failed to maintain its lane, traveled off the right shoulder of the road and the driver over-corrected, according to Munger. The car then re-entered the road, traveled into the northbound lanes, striking a curb.

“Vehicle 1 traveled down an embankment … then traveled approximately 239 feet and struck a tree head-on,” Munger said.

Tooley, who was not restrained, suffered lower extremity injuries and was taken by ambulance to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville.

Her injuries are non-life-threatening, according to Munger.

“Tooley’s 6-year-old son was in the rear seat on the passenger side,” Munger said. “The child was improperly restrained and was not in a child restraint of any kind.”

The child was airlifted from the scene by an AirLife Georgia helicopter to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston. Munger said the child is listed in critical but stable condition.

Munger said Tooley will be charged by GSP with driving under the influence, DUI child endangerment, and serious injury by motor vehicle, which is a felony.
