GAINESVILLE -- Hall County Fire Services will have three new vehicles in their fleet in the coming year.
The Hall County Commission voted unanimously this week to approve the purchase of two new fire engines and one new heavy emergency rescue vehicle for the department to replace some aging vehicles in the department. Hall County Fire Chief Jeff Hood said he's not sure yet what station the vehicles will be issued to.
"We've been planning this probably for six months," Hood said. "It takes 12 to 15 months to build (the heavy rescue vehicle) out and get them delivered, and by then things can change."
Hood said the two engines could be on the streets a little sooner, in eight months to a year. He added that the vehicles being replaced are different ages, but the oldest was put on the streets over 20 years ago.
"This is replacing current apparatus that's reached the end of their service life and their ability to function like we need them to," Hood said.
The county commission also voted to put the vehicles being replaced up for auction.
