SUWANEE — A sidewalk connection will be coming between George Pierce Park and the Ruby Forest neighborhood, while a proposed gas station will not be coming along McGinnis Ferry Road, following action taken this week by the Suwanee City Council.

The sidewalk, which will be between 500-800 feet, will connect the park to the back of the neighborhood's recreation area, according to Marty Allen, city manager.

The project was approved at the city council voting session Tuesday night. Mean time, council also unanimously denied a rezoning request to bring a gas station to the corner of McGinnis Ferry Road and Scales Road, south of Old Town Suwanee.

"The applicant didn't show up (to Tuesday's council meeting), and council ultimately denied the request. I do not know why the applicant was not present," said Allen.

There is no other appeal the applicant can make to try to revive the plans, Allen said.

"From the city's perspective, the process is complete," said Allen.

City staff and the Suwanee Planning Commission both recommended denial of the plan previously.
