VIDEO: Chemistry leading tight-knit North Hall into championship series

GAINESVILLE — The bad breaks, the missed opportunities, the mounting pressure, the losses -- the month of April could so easily have derailed North Hall baseball.

Instead the Trojans head into Memorial Day weekend just two wins removed from their first ever state championship.

After posting a 1-7 mark through the end of the regular season and the first game of the opening round of the state playoffs, North Hall gritted its teeth and responded with a stunning eight-game win streak that swept the program back into the Class AAA title series for the first time since 2013 and second time in its history.

It has not been easy, but the Trojans have almost made it seem that way -- though that should come as no shock for anyone familiar with a talented, experienced (the team features nine seniors) and focused group of players that revels in the details and the work required of any title contender. And once they righted the ship in the first round of the state playoffs, the dominos fell into place.

Now they will take a shot at knocking off a team equally hot in the Class AAA finale in Savannah, as the Trojans prepare to face Pierce County in a doubleheader beginning at 11 a.m. Thursday (Game 3, if necessary, of the series would take place Saturday in Savannah, time to be determined). The Bears have swept every series they have competed in and enter Thursday riding a 12-game win streak. Yet in its only previous state championship series run North Hall got the better of Pierce County in a three-game quarterfinal battle in 2013 in Blackshear.

The Trojans will hope to get the better of the Bears again starting on Thursday at Savannah's Grayson Stadium.
