KINGSPORT, Tenn. — The Truett McConnell baseball team fell one game short of earning its first ever AAC Tournament Championship as the No. 10 Tennessee Wesleyan Bulldogs shut down the high-powered Bears offense in a 4-1 game Saturday afternoon.
TMU got a great start from Nick Hammonds, who pitched five complete innings and gave up just two runs. The Bears had ample opportunities to score runs, but they could not find the timely hits to bring them around to score.
TMU's lone run came in the bottom of the fifth when Tate Gaines hit a RBI single to make it a 3-1 game at the time.
Chris Carden, Greg Elder and Patrick Overstreet were named to the All-Tournament team following the loss.
The Bears will now await the NAIA Selection Show on Thursday to find out where they will play next in the Opening Round. The Selection Show starts at 4 p.m. EDT and will be televised on the campus of Truett McConnell University. More details will follow later in the week.
