JESUP — Buford's bid for a third consecutive Elite 8 appearance came to crushing halt Saturday in the Class AAAAA baseball playoffs.

The Wolves fell 19-7in five innings to Wayne County in Game 3 on the two teams' best-of-three series.

Buford, which finished the season 20-14, won Game 10-6 but lost Game 5-1 on Friday.

On Saturday, Wayne County took the initial lead with a run in the first. Buford answered with a two-run home run from Noah Ledford in the bottom of the second but the Yellow Jackets (25-10) regained the lead for good in the third.

Wayne County battered starter Sean Adams for six runs in the inning for a 7-2 lead. Buford pulled within 7-6 in the fourth but things fell apart in the fifth.

Adams lasted just three innings and the Yellow Jackets hammered four Buford pitchers for 12 runs in the fifth. They held the Wolves scoreless in the bottom of the fifth to invoke the 10-run Mercy Rule.

Grant James had a hit and three RBI for Buford.

Wayne County moved on the quarterfinals and will play host to Carrollton next week.
