Georgia’s Hartwell Speedway is now under new management.
According to a post on the track’s Facebook page, Marty and Joyce Lance, who have operated the 3/8 mile clay raceway for the past 10 years, announced Wednesday that the track has been leased for the remainder of the 2017 season.
“They would like to thank all the fans and drivers for the wonderful support they have received over the past 10 years,” the post read.
Hours later, a post on the Facebook page for the “New” Lavonia Speedway, a 3/8 mile dirt track located in Lavonia, Georgia, announced that raceway staff had “agreed to acquire the lease on Hartwell Speedway for the remainder of the 2017 season and beyond.”
“Looking forward to welcoming with open arms a new family of racers and fans from Hartwell Speedway,” the post read.
The two tracks, along with Toccoa Raceway in Toccoa, Georgia, have been operating head-to-head on Saturday nights thus far in the 2017 season.
The Hartwell Speedway Facebook page went on to say that races slated for this Saturday, May 6, had been cancelled.
Lavonia Speedway also announced Wednesday night via Facebook that Hartwell Speedway will reopen on Sunday, May 28, with further schedule details to be announced.
