Girls golf: Habersham, Gainesville shoot their way to state

CLARKESVILLE — The Habersham Central and Gainesville girls golf teams shot their way into the state championships on Wednesday at Apple Mountain Golf Club in Clarkesville.

The Lady Raiders carded a team score of 274 to finish first in the Area 2-AAAAAA tournament, followed by the Lady Red Elephants with a 290. Lanier also finished third with a 299 to advance to the state championships May 22-23 -- which will take place at Chicopee Woods Golf Course.

Lakeside Evans' Kindle Smith claimed low medalist honors on the first hole of a sudden-death playoff after carding a 78.

Gainesville sophomore Vivian Robinson finished fourth individually with a career-low score of 85.
