FLOWERY BRANCH — The Flowery Branch girls soccer team played a tough schedule this season, facing off against top teams from a number of classifications.

That all paid off on Thursday night.

The Lady Falcons scored late in the first half and then played air tight defense the rest of the way in clinching a 1-0 victory over Riverwood in the first round of the Class AAAAA postseason in Flowery Branch.

Caroline Wysocki provided the difference for the Branch (11-6-1), scoring with 10:24 remaining before halftime.

The rest was on the Lady Falcons' defense, which posted its seventh shutout of the campaign en route to the program's first state playoff victory since 2013.

Their reward? Another home game. Fourth-seeded Dutchtown upset top-seeded Wayne County in the first round, meaning Flowery Branch will host its Sweet 16 showdown on May 2, kickoff time to be determined.

Flowery Branch defeated Riverwood 1-0 on Thursday in the first round of the Class AAAAA playoffs in Flowery Branch.
