CORNELIA — Warrants have been obtained for an individual believed to be responsible for a Wednesday afternoon bank robbery in Cornelia and one earlier in the month in Clermont.

“The suspect has been identified as Michael Anthony Gordon, 47, from White County,” said Cornelia Police Chief Chad Smith. “This is the same individual that the Hall County Sheriff’s Office has active warrants on for robbing the United Community Bank in Clermont on April 5, 2017.”

At 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 26, the South State Bank branch inside Ingles in Cornelia was robbed, with the suspect getting away with an undisclosed amount of money.

Warrants were issued Thursday, April 27, for armed robbery, aggravated assault, kidnapping, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, according to a statement from Smith.

“This case is continuing to be investigated and no further information is expected to be released,” according to Smith.

Anyone who sees Gordon is asked to call 9-1-1. Anyone with information about his whereabouts is asked to call their local police or sheriff’s office.
