A man's body found inside a car along I-85 in Jefferson was shot in the head.
Law enforcement was called to the scene on the southbound side of the interstate near the U.S. 129/Ga. 11 exit around 9:30 a.m. according to Jefferson Police Chief Joe Wirthman.
"We got there, and the definitely identified a body deceased in a car. It looked suspicious, so we called the GBI out to assist," said Wirthman.
The victim is described as a white man in his 20's. Police know who he is, but they were still working to notify family members before releasing his identity to the public.
The man's body has been sent to the morgue, Wirthman said. Officials did not release whether or not the gun shot wound was self-inflicted, but Wirthman said a firearm was discovered at the scene.
The investigation caused a miles-long backup on the interstate, according to witnesses in the area.
