Construction will likely begin this fall on new, more aesthetic fencing along the Lawrenceville-Suwanee Road bridge over I-85 in Suwanee.
City council approved a $278,887 contract for the work, to be completed by L.C. Whitford Co., Inc. of Forsyth County.
"The current fencing (is) dilapidated and falling apart," said Allen.
It will be replaced with new fencing that has some decorative elements on it, including the Suwanee "S" medallion, which is commonly seen on car magnets around town.
The funding, which does not include any grant money, is coming from the city's 2014 Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST).
The bridge itself will not get nearly the artistic overhaul that overpasses at Pleasant Hill Road and Jimmy Carter Boulevard got, but he said it will be more aesthetically pleasing.
The fencing will be steel, and it will be painted black.
