Posted 4:10PM on Wednesday 12th April 2017 ( 7 years ago )
The man suspected of robbing a bank in the Clermont area on April 5 has been identified by Hall County Sheriff's Deputies.

Deputy Stephen Wilbanks said the suspect is Michael Anthony Gordon, 47.

"Mr. Gordon is from Cleveland, Ga. and has ties in the northeast Georgia/western North Carolina region, and as far away as Columbus, Indiana," Wilbanks wrote in a news release.

Gordon is 6' tall, 220 pounds, with brown hair and blue eyes. He is believed to be traveling in a white, 1994 Mazda B3000 pick up truck.

On the Wednesday morning of the robbery, authorities said a suspect entered the United Community Bank at 5172 Cleveland Highway, displayed a handgun and passed a note to teller.  The suspect left with cash.

Later that day, deputies released bank surveillance photos of the suspect and the truck.

"Mr. Gordon has arrest warrants currently for armed robbery, possession of a gun by a convicted felon and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime," Wilbanks said.

According to a Georgia Department of Corrections online inmate query, Gordon has prior sentences in Hall and White counties on convictions including escape, forgery, theft of motor vehicle or part and theft by taking.

Wilbanks advised anyone who sees Gordon not to approach him, but to contact 911 immediately.

Authorities urged anyone with information as to Gordon's whereabouts to contact Hall County Sheriff’s Investigator B. Roach at (770) 297-5790 or Hall County Central Communications at (770) 536-8812.
