CLEVELAND — Wednesday’s storms left a trail of damage in their wake, including a destroyed barn and a damaged home in White County.
The first call was to 733 Albert Reid Road, Cleveland, at 11:39 a.m.
In that instance, the caller told dispatchers their barn was hit by lightning and was fully involved, according to White County Public Safety spokeswoman Ana Newberry. There were no animals inside, but there were antique tractors and several bales of hay stored inside.
White County Stations 2, 5 and 6, and Cleveland Fire Department responded. No injuries were reported.
The barn and contents were a total loss, according to Newberry. Firefighters were on scene for about three and one-half hours.
The second fire was reported at 12:33 p.m. at a home located at 313 Pratton Drive, Cleveland.
The homeowner told dispatchers lightning had struck their house, according to Newberry. White County Stations 2, 3 and 4 were dispatched. Upon arrival, firefighters affirmed lightning had struck the house and had blown out the power breaker panel.
Newberry said firefighters removed parts of the ceiling to extinguish the insulation that was burning.
Lightning appeared to have hit the front porch light and traveled through the electrical wires, ending in the breaker panel, according to Newberry. No injuries were reported.
Firefighters were on scene for approximately two hours.
