The potential for "strong to severe" thunderstorms over much of Georgia Monday afternoon and evening has increased, according to the National Weather Service.

The primary threats are damaging winds, large hail, "a few tornadoes," frequent lightning and heavy rain.  Forecasters say to expect 1-2 inches of rain, with some locally heavier amounts which could lead to some flooding.

The best bet for the most severe weather is in west Georgia along the Alabama border from near LaGrange, southeastward toward Americus - and including the Columbus area.  But, all of the state is at risk, according to forecasters.
