FLOWERY BRANCH — Flowery Branch baseball used a sac fly in the bottom of the seventh to pull out a 5-4 win over Johnson on Wednesday in Flowery Branch.
The Falcons (9-7, 2-0 Region 8-AAAAA) were led by Anthony Grutadaurio at the plate, as he supplied a double and and two runs scored, while Andrew Reichart had a hit and an RBI. Peyton Vinson also drove in a run, and Sean Akins, Dalton Strickland, AJ Gonzalez and Trace Merck also produced hits.
Zack Wagner pitched a complete game in earning the win, yielding six hits and three earned runs, while also striking out seven batters.
Meanwhile, Chandler Barkley threw 6 innings in a no-decision for the Knights (2-13, 0-4), giving up one earned run on six hits and striking out 4. Ramon Munoz took the loss in relief.
Payden Grizzle helped pace Johnson at the plate, going 1 for 3 with two runs scored, while Munoz was 1 for 3 with a double and two RBI. Tino Mukono also finished 1 for 3 with a double and an RBI.
Johnson will look to bounce back at 5:30 p.m. Monday at Riverside Military Academy in Gainesville.
Flowery Branch travels to face Loganville on Friday.
