A new doughnut shop is one step closer to locating on Shallowford Road near Lakeshore Mall in Gainesville.

The Gainesville Planning and Appeals Board Tuesday evening approved an annexation request from Masy Seng to build the 1,200 square foot shop on a piece of property that's about one-fifth of an acre in size.

The property in question is located on the northwest side of the intersection of Shallowford Road and Albert Street.

"The applicant intends to utilize city water and sewer services, therefore, they're asking to annex this property," said City Planning Manager Matt Tate.

Seng helped establish Danny's Donuts on Main Street in Gainesville, and he owns Ray's Donuts in Buford; the proposed shop would be similar to those establishments.

Gainesville City Council must give final approval to the annexation.
