Honors pile up for local students, schools

Several area students and school systems have been recognized at various levels in recent days for significant achievements.

*Congressman Doug Collins (R-Ga.) announced that Nikhil Patel and Braden Parks have received fully qualified offers of admission to attend U.S. Military Service Academies (West Point and Air Force, respectively). 

*Dawson County High School earned first place in the Outstanding Chapter Activity category for the Georgia Department of Labor’s Jobs for Georgia Graduates 13th Annual State Career Association Conference.  

*Gainesville High School  won the 8 AAAAAA Region  Literary Tournament with 72  points.  GHS had seven  first places advancing to the State AAAAAA Literary on March 18. 

*Johnson High School student Elizabeth Mendoza earned the first-place award in the Employability Skills category for the Georgia Department of Labor’s Jobs for Georgia Graduates 13th Annual State Career Association Conference.

*Emma Clyburn, an 8th grade student at Lanier Christian Academy, recently competed in the 2016 Middle School Water Essay Contest.  Emma’s essay earned her a first place finish in Hall County, and she was named district winner out of 1,700 entries submitted from 15 counties in northeast Georgia.

*C.W. Davis Middle School sixth-grader Natalie Carmical has been named a winner in a national essay contest sponsored by the World War II Museum in New Orleans, Louisiana.  

*Three Hall County students are among this year's Georgia Technology Literacy Challenger winners. They are: Charles Thompson, Chestatee High School, state winner, and runners-up Christopher Spradlin, Flowery Branch High; and, Jayden Asper, North Hall Middle School.

*Hall County's World Language Academy was awarded Georgia's first ever Innovative Program Award for a K-12 institution by the Foreign Language Association of Georgia.
