More employers expected at upcoming chamber job fair

A larger pool of employers is expected to greet job seekers a little later this month for the Greater Hall Chamber of Commerce job fair in Gainesville.

 

"We expect to have more employers this year than we've had in the past, so we're thrilled about that, and also some new and different employers that have never participated before and some that are just new to this area," Amanda Lewis, Project Manager for economic development at the chamber said.

 

The March 22 event runs from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.  The fair is marking its 6th year at the Gainesville Civic Center, according to Lewis.

 

Last year, just over 1000 job seekers attended the fair.  Lewis said officials considered that a good turnout being that there were signs the economy was improving.  

 

"We did have some years where the economy was really bad where we had probably a couple thousand come out."

 

The advice for job seekers looking to impress remains the same, according to Lewis.  She said they should dress for the job they want and bring plenty of resumes.

 

"Presentation is important.  This is your first impression and your chance to make a good impression."

 

The Georgia Mountain’s Regional Commission’s Mobile Career Coach will be on site to help with resumes and printing, according to the Georgia Department of Labor.

 

As far as job fair results, Lewis said the chamber does hear back from employers who've made hires as a result of the fair, even some hiring people on the spot at the civil center.

 

"We always do a survey after the job fair and we have great results.  Job fairs are still a great way for people to get a job."

 

Chamber officials are finalizing the list of employers.  They're expected to post them, along with some available positions on the chamber website.  Lewis said the list will likely go up by Tuesday, March 14.

 

The job fair has no entry fee and is open to the public.
