GREENWOOD, S.C. — The eighth-ranked University of North Georgia baseball team bounced back to win their first conference series of the season, 2-1, following a 8-1 victory over Lander on the road Sunday.
With the series win North Georgia improves to 12-4 on the season and 2-1 in the Peach Belt Conference.
The Nighthawks got rolling in the top of the third after three walks and a single from Connor Hoover drove in the first run. North Georgia brought home three more runs in the inning following an error by the Lander shortstop, and a fielder's choice.
The Nighthawks were able to put two more runs on the board in the fourth with three more walks paired with hits from Kal Dempsey and Hoover and chasing Lander's second pitcher young game.
The Bearcats answered back with a run in the bottom half of the fourth with a single from Ryan Troutman that drove in Bailey Connell standing on third to make the score 6-1.
The score remained 6-1 until the top of the eighth inning when the Nighthawks tacked on two insurance runs after a two-run single from Trevor Sams.
Daniel McCrary (3-1) picked up the credited with the win after striking out seven batters and allowing just six hits in his six innings of starting work.
Notes
- After moving down seven today, starting pitcher Daniel McCrary has earned seven or more in strikeouts in three of his five outings this season for the Nighthawks.
- Devin Gearhart scored three of the Nighthawks' runs and went 2-for-4 from the plate in today's victory against Lander.
- With the road victory North Georgia is now 19-20 all-time against Lander and 8-11 in Greenwood.
-The Nighthawks were able to reach base on 10 hits and 11 walks off of the seven Lander pitchers faced in today's matchup.
