Forsyth County Manager Doug Derrer, who once held public offices in Hall County, plans to retire April 2.

Derrer, who has served as Forsyth County Manager for more than nine years, was recently recognized by the county Board of Commissioners for his service.

Derrer began his service with Forsyth County in February 2008 as deputy county manager and was named county manager in March 2009. During his tenure as county manager, Derrer was responsible for managing the $100 million courthouse and jail construction project among other initiatives, according to a county press release.

Prior to joining Forsyth County, he had more than 31 years of local government experience.  In addition to serving as warden and public safety director for Hall County, Derrer is a former Flowery Branch City Manager and worked as a police officer  for Miami-Dade County in Florida.
