A Homer man remains jailed after allegedly biting the face of a victim twice during a domestic dispute outside Homer Saturday afternoon.
"At around 3:20 p.m. our deputies responded to an address located off Highway 51 North near Poole Road in reference to a physical domestic dispute, which was in progress," said Banks County Sheriff's Lt. Carissa McFaddin. "Deputies were advised that the aggressor on scene was possibly under the influence of methamphetamine and had attacked a family member after a verbal dispute had escalated.
"Jared William Hobson, the aggressor in this incident, reportedly took a bite of flesh from the victim's left cheek and the right eyebrow during the physical altercation," McFaddin said. "He then allegedly retrieved a shotgun, pointed it toward the victim, at which time the victim retrieved a rifle and fire in self-defense after pleading with Hobson to put the firearm down."
Hobson did not comply with the victim's pleas to put down the shotgun, so the victim fired the rifle in Hobson's direction, purposely missing him to give the victim the opportunity to flee, McFaddin said.
"Hobson then reportedly shot multiple rounds toward the victim," McFaddin said.
Arriving deputies established a perimeter, blocking off travel on Ga. 51 North and other areas around the home and property where the incident occurred.
"During this time, Hobson reportedly set fire to a vehicle on the property and then barricaded himself within a barn structure," McFaddin said. "Deputies did witness the sound of four gunshots while Hobson was within the building before observing the structure in flames."
After the barn began to burn, Hobson fled the structure.
"Hobson retreated from the structure on an ATV and traveled toward Poole Road, where he was met by our deputies," McFaddin said. "After being detained without further incident, deputies did locate a loaded shotgun in the passenger seat of the ATV that Hobson was driving."
Hobson, 36, is charged with aggravated assault and remains in the Banks County Detention Center. He also now faces three counts of second-degree arson and a burglary charge, McFaddin said.
The Georgia State Fire Marshal's Office was requested to investigate the fire.
The victim was transported to an area hospital for treatment of the facial injuries.
