The Forsyth County Sheriff's Office South Precinct is again fully open for business after housing only one unit for the past four years.
The sheriff's office announced the move in a video posted on its Facebook page.
The building on Ronald Reagan Boulevard behind South Forsyth High School now houses south uniform patrol, criminal investigations, traffic units, the motorcycle unit and community relations, according to the video.
Prior to the February 6 reopening, deputies had to respond to south Forsyth County calls from the North Precinct, increasing response times and extending shifts from 12 to 13 hours.
"South end units had to wait longer for relief before they could go home," a graphic on the video reads.
Only criminal investigations were housed in the building during the past four years.
Sheriff Ron Freeman, who took office earlier this year, at one point served as Commander of the South Precinct. During his campaign against incumbent Duane Piper last year, he stated that 70 percent of the county’s population is located in its southern end with no patrol deputies.
