RALEIGH, N.C. — The Piedmont College softball team dropped the final two contests of the Triangle Classic on Sunday, going 1-3 at the tournament with a loss to Emory and a close loss to USA South opponent Averett. The Lady Lions move to 7-7 on the year heading into the start of USA South competition Tuesday taking on Wesleyan College.
The Lady Lions' run against Emory came in the bottom of the third as a pair of errors on the Eagles' infield led to the lone run of the game for PC. That tied the game for the Lady Lions as Emory had scored the first run of the game in the top of the second.
Emory took control of the contest in the fourth inning batting around scoring five runs to win by a score of 6-1.
In game two of the day, the Lady Lions dropped a close one to Averett after the Cougars scored in the bottom of the first to take the lead and added another run in the fifth to lead it 2-0. Piedmont fought back with a run in the top of the sixth but could not complete the rally.
Piedmont opens USA South play on Tuesday at Wesleyan College with a doubleheader set to begin at 2.
