Multiple jurisdictions battle Sunday fires in Banks County

Posted 6:03AM on Monday 27th February 2017 ( 7 years ago )

Firefighters from three counties, the City of Baldwin and the Georgia Forestry Commission worked Sunday to control a fire that destroyed a detached garage and burned about five acres near Alto Sunday afternoon.

The fire was on Garland White Road, located where Habersham, Banks and Hall counties intersect.

Banks County Fire/EMS Chief Steve Nichols said the fire threatened six residences, so Banks County personnel were assisted through mutual aid from Hall and Habersham counties. No damage occurred to those structures, but the detached garage was a total loss, along with a boat inside.

"We had just finished another brush fire that Baldwin Fire assisted us on with approximately three acres involved and exposures to several residences on Deer Creek Trail near Baldwin when the Garland White call came in," Nichols said. "Units were pulled from that call to assist. Georgia Forestry assisted on both."

Smoke rises from the charred remains of a detached garage on Garland White Road near Alto Sunday.
