University of North Georgia senior Michael Gouge has been honored as the Peach Belt Conference Player of the Week, the league office announced on Tuesday. He is the first Nighthawk to receive a weekly honor this season.
Gouge brought the hammer down in four games last week, hitting .556 with six doubles, two home runs, nine runs batted in, and a 1.222 slugging percentage. He went 3-for-6 with a pair of doubles and two driven in against Southern Wesleyan before opening up a three-game set against top-ranked defending national champions Nova Southeastern. In the opener against NSU, the senior went 2-for-3 with two doubles and an RBI.
The Lawrenceville native was 4-for-5 in the second game with two doubles and a home run. He homered again in game 3 as the Nighthawks finished a sweep and went 4-0 on the week. Gouge drew a pair of walks and had a .619 on-base percentage. He was errorless in left field with 11 putouts and one assist. He leads the PBC in RBI, total bases, doubles, and runs scored and is second in slugging percentage.
The Nighthawks return to the diamond on Friday, hosting Lynn in a three-game set this weekend at Bob Stein Stadium.
