Posted 2:02PM on Monday 13th February 2017 ( 7 years ago )

The Jackson County Animal Shelter is officially open, following Monday's ribbon-cutting ceremony.

The facility, located on Galilee Church Road in Jefferson, will be open Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Fridays and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., according to a news release.

"The new Jackson County Animal Shelter is a fully operational facility that houses stray, lost, abandoned and surrendered cats and dogs," said county spokeswoman Sloane M. Meyer in the release.

The goal of the facility is to have as many of its occupants adopted as possible, and each adopted animal will be spayed or neutered, vaccinated and micro-chipped.

This is the first animal shelter in Jackson County, and officials are looking for volunteer support and donations.

The shelter's phone number is (706) 367-5480.
