Authorities say an apparent drunk driver caused a three-vehicle crash in South Hall County that killed a Buford woman Sunday night.
Hall County Sheriff's Deputy Stephen Wilbanks said the collision occurred just after 8:20 p.m at the intersection of Lanier Islands Parkway (Ga SR 347) and McEver Road.
"The investigation revealed that 57-year-old David Treadwell of Lilburn was driving a 2006 Dodge Ram eastbound on SR 347 and turned left to proceed north on McEver Road. As he did so, he failed to yield to a 2004 Chevrolet Impala, which was being driven westbound on SR 347 by 78 year-old Herbert Kegley, of Buford," Wilbanks said.
He said Kegley and his 72-year-old wife Carol Conrad were both injured and transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center.
"Mr. Kegley was treated and released, but Ms. Conrad later died as a result of her injuries," Wilbanks said.
He said a third vehicle involved in the crash was traveling behind Kegley's vehicle; the driver of that vehicle was not injured.
Treadwell was arrested at the scene and charged with a list of offenses:
- Homicide by vehicle 1st degree
- Driving under the influence of alcohol
- Failure to yield right of way while turning left
- Driving with suspended/canceled registration
- No proof of insurance
Wilbanks said Treadwell remains in the Hall County Jail awaiting a first court appearance.
The Hall County Sheriff’s Office Accident Investigation Unit is handling the investigation.
