For the first time in Habitat for Humanity of Hall County's 28 year history, the organization will simultaneously build three homes in their signature subdivision, Copper Glen.

Habitat of Hall County's ceremonial ground breaking on the homes will take place Monday, February 6, at 4 p.m. in the Copper Glen subdivision located at 3678 Baker Road.

Executive Director, Tim Williams, credited funds raised at last fall's Medical Center Open Golf Tournament as a catalyst for the historic project.

The tournament, hosted by the Medical Center Foundation, raised over $280,000 for the 2016 beneficiary Habitat for Humanity after setting goal of $200,000.

"We will be starting these three homes on Monday at the ground breaking ceremony. The home owners will be there and it will be a great celebration," Williams said.

Once completed, the houses will become the homes of Meoshea Columbus, Caleb Last, and Joe and Holly Byrd.

"They are three extremely hard working families. In this case, all three families do have small children. One of which is a single father with two twin girls that are all living currently in his parents' basement. So they will be real excited to have their own home," said Williams.

"Every family has different stories and different backgrounds, but what they share in common is the ability to work really hard for something that they want in life and are doing so with us here at Habitat."

Williams said building three homes as opposed to one is not too much more of a challenge than simply doing one, especially since the homes will be side-by-side so volunteers can jump back and forth to work on the homes as needed.

Although the project time-line for all three homes was always planned to be built simultaneously , Williams stated that the funds from the Medical Center Open Golf Tournament were vital.

"We are very lucky to have been the recipient of the Medical Center Open proceeds, which I believe is the largest fundraiser in Gainesville. We were blessed to get those benefits and are now ready to put it in to action and people in to new homes."

The public is invited to attend the Ground Breaking Ceremony on Monday, February 6, at 4pm at 3678 Baker Road.
