HOUSTON — Center Alex Mack, the biggest offseason free agent pick up for the Atlanta Falcons, and arguably the biggest reason the Falcons advanced to their first Super Bowl since 1999, says he will play in the biggest game of the season, according to published reports.

SB Nation, ESPN, CBSSports, and New York Daily News, among others, reported that Mack suffered a fractured fibula against the Green Bay Packers in the NFC Championship game two weeks ago.

According to the reports, the injury would normally require six to eight weeks to heal and he would not be listed to play. But Mack sat out the first week of Super Bowl practice and was limited in practice this past week and told coaches he could play.

According to the reports, Falcons coaches say they will monitor Mack but will let him start the game.

It is the first Super Bowl appearance for the 31-year-old, who spent his entire career with the Cleveland Browns before signing with the Falcons this past offseason.

Alex Mack (51) has been a key ingredient in the Atlanta Falcons offense. Mack said he will play in Saunday's Super Bowl despite sustaining a fractured fibula against the Green Bay Packers two weeks ago.
