Girls basketball: Sutton leads Lady Falcons past Clarke Central in finale

ATHENS — The Flowery Branch girls closed their Region 8-AAAAA regular season with a 63-55 win over Clark Central Saturday afternoon.

The Lady Falcons (19-5, 10-2 Region 8-AAAAA) jumped out to a 20-10 lead cafter the first quarter and then held off several charges by the Lady Gladiators (10-13, 6-6).

Clarke Central cut the lead to 35-29 by halftime and then pulled within 46-42 heading into the fourth quarter. But the Lady Falcons pulled away in the final minutes to preserve the victory.

Julianne Sutton poured in 25 points to pace Flowery Branch. Taniyah Worth added 12 points, Queen Scott nine, and Janoah Williams eight for the Lady Falcons.

Flowery Branch will play host to Johnson on Wednesday in the first round of the Region 8-AAAAA tournament.
