Chestatee High School has been chosen by the College Board and the Georgia Department of Education as one of only five high schools in the state to be named an AP Champion Award school.

This award is given to schools who have worked to create an Advanced Placement culture that promotes, encourages, and engages all students in the AP program.  The award comes along with a $500 stipend that can be spent to further advance the AP program at the school. Chestatee High School was recognized for creating a school culture and AP Program that:

*Reflects the school’s efforts toward eliminating barriers that restrict access to AP courses for students from ethnic, racial, and socioeconomic groups that have been traditionally underserved

*Ensures that AP classes at the school reflect the diversity of the school’s student population

*Illustrates intentions to build and sustain a positive culture around AP courses by celebrating both student participation and success

*Creatively promotes AP courses while encouraging and engaging students

Advanced Placement courses offer a college-level curriculum taught by highly trained high school teachers. Chestatee High School offers AP courses in English, Spanish, science, calculus and statistics, social studies, art, music, computer science, and research. Nearly 350 students are enrolled in AP courses at CHS. Chestatee High School is also one of the first Georgia high schools to offer the AP Capstone Diploma.

Principal Suzanne Jarrard commented, “I am so very proud of our students and staff at CHS. Our AP program is certainly a point of pride for us. Through participation in this rigorous program, students are well prepared to meet the demands of college courses when they graduate.”
