Students from schools in Hall, Forsyth and Gwinnett counties are among the winners in this year's essay contest sponsored by the Metropolitan North Georgia Water Planning District.

Owen Tracy of Lanier Christian Academy (Hall County); Skanda Bharadwaj (Forsyth), a student at South Forsyth Middle School; and, Caleb Robertson (Gwinnett), a student at North Gwinnett Middle School were among 14 winners this year.

According to a posting on the grouip's Facebook page, the Middle School Essay Contest challenges students to think critically about the region’s water resources and raises awareness for conservation and preservation of water quality in metro Atlanta.

This year marked the 16th year of the Metro Water District Middle School Essay Contest. Sixth-, seventh- and eighth-graders in the agency's 15-county metro area are invited to participate in the contest each year.

More than 1,200 essays were submitted for this year's contest.

The full list of winners can be found here.
