Starting on January 1, 2018 Phillips State Prison in Buford will have a new warden.

The Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) announced earlier this month that Cedric Taylor will move from Baldwin State Prison in Milledgeville, where he has served as warden of that facility since 2014.

GDC Commissioner Gregory C. Dozier announced Taylor's reassignment.

“Taylor has shown great leadership skills in each position he has held in his 26 years,” said Dozier in a press statement. “We look forward to his continued leadership in carrying out the Department’s mission at his new facility.”

Taylor will be responsible for overseeing 375 staff members and more than 850 inmates at the Buford facility, according to Dozier.

Taylor, who received an Associates Degree from Marion Military Institute and a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from Thomas University, also attended the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, where he played football. He began his career with the Department in 1992.
