A judge has sentenced citizen journalist Nydia Tisdale for her conviction earlier this month on a misdemeanor obstruction charge in connection with a Dawson County political rally.
Tisdale appeared for sentencing Monday afternoon before visiting Judge Martha Christian in Dawson County Superior Court.
The Dawson County Clerk of Court's Office confirmed Tisdale was sentenced to serve 12 months on probation, pay a fine of $1,000 and serve 40 hours of community service.
While Tisdale was convicted on the misdemeanor obstruction charge on Dec. 4, she was cleared of more serious charges, all of which had stemmed from an incident at a Republican rally at Burt's Pumpkin Farm in August 2014. Tisdale was videotaping the rally and was asked to stop recording. When she refused to do so, she was forcibly removed from the event by then-Dawson County Sheriff's Capt. Tony Wooten, who was apparently working off-duty security at the rally.
