TOCCOA — The Georgia State Patrol on Wednesday released corrected information about the identity of the driver critically injured in a wreck on Ga. 365 outside Toccoa Monday night.

The driver involved in Monday night’s wreck was Jared Lanier Sartain, 23, of Lavonia, said Sgt. 1st Class Chad Johnson of GSP Post 7 in Toccoa.

GSP initially released the name of the vehicle owner, Jacob Timothy Trites, as the driver and area media reported it, but Johnson said Trites was not involved in the wreck, and thus was not injured.

The wreck occurred when a white Ford F-350 pickup truck pulling a two-axle trailer and driven by Sartain was traveling south on Ga. 365 above the posted speed limit, exited the travel lanes and entered the center median, where it traveled down the median until the driver lost control, according to Cpl. D. Van Scoten of GSP Post 7.

“The truck then skid-crossed both lanes of Ga. 365 and crashed through the guardrail,” Van Scoten said. “The truck and trailer overturned and came to rest down a steep embankment. A quick response from Stephens County EMS personnel allowed the driver to be extricated and LifeFlighted to Greenville Medical. The driver is in critical condition.”

Van Scoten said the other two male occupants were taken to Stephens County Hospital with minor injuries.

Charges are pending the driver’s recovery, according to Van Scoten.
