TOCCOA — Toccoa Police Department Det. Jimmy Mize will serve as interim police chief following Police Chief Tim Jarrell’s last day on Dec. 30.

City Manager Billy Morse made the announcement during Monday night’s Toccoa City Commission meeting.

“Detective Mize is well-respected inside the Toccoa Police Department, and well-liked in our community,” Morse said. “I am confident that he will do a great job for the city.”

Mize has 25 years of law enforcement experience, serving 20 with the Stephens County Sheriff’s Office.

He has worked for Toccoa P.D. for more than four years.

Mize said he loves Toccoa and the community and is excited to serve them.

“I really appreciate this opportunity to serve as the interim police chief,” Mize said. “It’s an honor that the city is allowing me to have this trial period. Toccoa is awesome, the people here are great too, we just have a great community.”

Mize will be working alongside Jarrell until Jarrell’s last day on the job in Toccoa.

Jarrell has accepted a position as police chief and city manager for the Town of Mt. Airy, effective Jan. 1.
