It may be Monday before power is restored to all Habersham EMC customers who were left in the dark by Friday's snow storm.
"Outages have increased throughout the day (Saturday) as the weight of snow on trees has forced them to break or lean onto power lines, pushing the lines together and causing outages," the electric co-op said in a news release Saturday afternoon. "Also as large clumps of snow fell from trees or lines, they created a 'rubber band' effect where the lines bounce into each other. Due to this several members have had power restored, then experience another outage."
The release goes on to say "It is expected that all HEMC members will have power by Monday."
As of 3:15 Sunday afternoon, more than 12,516 meters are affected by the outages.
JACKSON EMC
Meanwhile, Jackson EMC fared much better, and has even been able to dispatch some of its personnel to other parts of the state affected by the storm.
Thirteen linemen were sent to assist with restoration efforts at Cobb EMC. Sunday, nine othersare planning to help Carroll EMC, if needed. "These areas are some of the hardest hit in Georgia because of the winter storm. Both EMCs report extensive outages for their members," according to a news release.
Earlier in the day, at 1:30, Jackson EMC reported it had 554 members who remained without power in Hall (392), Lumpkin (160) and Gwinnett (2) counties. About 500 outages had been reported Friday.
