There are places in Georgia that had received up to 10 inches of snow as of 10:00 Friday night, according to a preliminary report from the National Weather Service, and more fell during the overnight hours.

The extreme northeast corner of the state and part of an area bounded by Canton, Rome and Carrollton are where the 10-inch readings were recorded.

While the NWS is reporting 2-3 inches for Gainesville, social media posts and other sources are showing amounts of anywhere from 4-6 inches.

The Gainesville area awoke to more snowfall Saturday morning.  The snow ended and skies began clearing about noon Saturday.  However, the high temperature Saturday is only expected to get into the low 40s, with lows Saturday night dipping into the mid-20s.

The forecast for the coming week doesn't call for it to be much warmer but there is little chance of any precipitation, according to the outlook.

Rabun County Friday afternoon.
