Jackson EMC crews stand ready

Posted 12:00AM on Friday 8th December 2017 ( 6 years ago )

As the region braces for possible winter storm damage, Jackson EMC is putting out the word, there are precautions you can take to keep to stay safe.

Jackson EMC Director of  PR and Communication April Sorrow said when storms come and lights go out, some folks use gasoline powered generators.  She said when using one, make sure it's operating outside of the home.

"Because they have those carbon monoxide fumes that are very harmful to you, they are orderless and tasteless, you need to use precautions with that," Sorrow said.

Winter storms can bring the threat of downed power lines.

"That is very dangerous, and the best thing to do is report that to Jackson EMC or 911," said Sorrow. "Please treat all downed power lines as if they are energized."

Sorrow said linemen and crews are on standby, and the Jackson EMC online outage map is constantly updated.

In the latest predictions, forecasters called for varying amounts of snow but not ice.
