Man shot, killed in Nicholson, suspect apprehended

A man was shot to death late Tuesday night in Nicholson, and Jackson County authorities have charged another man with murder in the case.

Xavier Tyray Neal, of Commerce, was arrested around 11:15 p.m. Tuesday, according to Jackson County Sheriff Janis Mangum.

Mangum said authorities received several calls reporting the shooting around 10:22 p.m.  Deputies responded to Pace Drive and discovered the victim, Scottie Dale Pressley, 34.  He had been shot several times.

Neal was nabbed less than an hour after the shooting when he fell into a ravine and called 911.

"He did not call to tell anything that had happened, other than he had fell, was hurt and didn't know what happened," Mangum said.

Neal and Pressley knew one another, according to Mangum.  Authorities are trying to piece together the motive.

"They (suspect and victim) were at another man's residence, and that man was present...so we do have a witness to the actual incident," Mangum said.

Mangum said Neal is believed to be in his early 20's.  He continued to go through the booking process late Wednesday morning.
