A Monday morning school bus accident in Lumpkin County sent two students to the hospital for medical treatment, officials said.

It happened at 7:13 a.m. in the Crooked Creek subdivision when the bus went off the side of the road and hit a tree, according to a social media post from the Lumpkin County School system.

Both injured students were later released from the hospital, and the other 26 students on board, along with the bus driver, were not hurt.

"As with all school bus accidents, the driver was taken for a drug and alcohol screening. Based on preliminary results, we do not have a reason to believe the driver was under the influence of anything," the post reads.

At last report, officials were still investigating what caused the single-vehicle accident.
