Gateway Domestic Violence Center is one of 150 domestic violence programs around the country that recently was awarded a $20,000 grant from The Mary Kay Foundation.

Gateway will use the grant to support its emergency shelter and transitional housing programs, according to Jessica Butler, executive director at Gateway.

“We were thrilled be receive this award,” Butler said. “Operating support from foundations is a critical part of our operating budget.”

According to its website, the Mary Kay Foundation observes National Domestic Violence Awareness Month each October by awarding grants to deserving women’s domestic violence shelters across the country. Since its founding in 1996, the foundation has awarded $68 million to organizations fighting cancer and violence against women.
