Forsyth County could soon be taking legal action against drug companies because of the ever growing crisis of painkiller addiction.

Over the past year, Forsyth County emergency workers have responded to 30 overdose calls, 22 of those people have died.  County Commission Chairman Todd Levent told Fox 5 News the county is considering going after opioid manufacturers in court.

"Pharmaceutical companies and the doctors that are over prescribing should be held responsible at some level," Levent said.

Maurice Hilliard was the one who found his grandson dead from an overdose in 2016 and is all for the county filing a lawsuit.

"I think they (drug companies) are primarily responsible," Hilliard said. "They are the one who got all this started."

County officials will meet Tuesday to discuss the legal action.  If approved, Forsyth County will join Fulton and the hundreds of municipalities across the country doing the same thing.
