NORCROSS — Greater Atlanta Christian scored on defense, special teams, and got several explosive touchdown runs in taking a 49-10 win over Dawson County Friday night to claim the Region 7-AAA title.
It was the second straight 7-AAA crown for the Spartans (9-1, 6-0 Region 7-AAA) who led 49-0 at halftime. The loss snapped Dawson County's (7-3, 5-1) five-game win streak.
Four different players scored rushing touchdowns for GAC, led by a pair of long touchdown runs of 53 and 70 yards from Kyle McMichael. The Spartans also got a blocked punt for a touchdown and returned an interception of a Coey Watson pass for a touchown.
Dawson County got its lone touchdown from Sevaughn Clark, who finished with 111 yards on 19 carries. Watson, however, was held to season-lows for passing (7-of-13 for 59 yards, no touchdowns) and rushing with just 56 yards on 9 carries.
The Tigers will be the No. 2 seed from 7-AAA and will play host to Hart County next week in the first round of the playoffs. GAC will play host to Jackson County and senior running back Noah Venable next week.
