WINDER — Winder-Barrow spent much of this season making big plays on offense, but on Friday night Dacula's big-play ability proved too much for the Bulldoggs, as the Falcons sprinted to a 47-14 win that secured Dacula's second straight Region 8-AAAAAA crown.
The outcome also denied Winder's bid for its first ever region crown and dropped the Bulldoggs into a three-way tie for second place in the playoff seeding race in 8-AAAAAA. Winder awaits the updated MaxPreps rankings on Saturday to break a log-jam with Lanier and Gainesville, all 3-2 in region play.
The Bulldoggs must wait thanks in large part to Dacula's explosive offense and receiver Jalen Perry.
Perry caught three touchdown passes in the first half -- covering distances of 78, 25 and 80 yards -- as the Falcons (6-4, 4-0 Region 8-AAAAAA) pounced on a 38-14 halftime advantage.
Winder's Lamonta Mack hauled in a 52-yard touchdown pass in the first quarter to counter Perry's first two scoring catches, as the Bulldoggs trailed 14-7 after the first quarter. But Dacula charged right back in front 21-7 thanks to a 74-yard touchdown pass from Shayne Buckingham to Deontaye Brown. Buckingham also added a scoring run just before the half. It was too much for the Bulldoggs, who got a 33-yard second quarter touchdown pass from Brock Landis to Jamar Mack but could not keep pace.
