LILBURN — Towns County used a 21-point fourth quarter to grab a quick lead over Providence Christian and then cruised to a 42-21 win Friday night on the road.
The Indians (5-5, 4-5 Region 8-A) now will have to wait for the final Georgia High School Assocaition power rankings to see if they will qualify for their first-ever playoff appearance. They sat 25th coming into Friday's action, one spot out of the top 24.
The 5-5 finish is the second-best overall record and the best region record ever for the Indians, who went 7-3 in 2008 playing a non-region schedule. The 2008 team isstill the only Towns County squad to post a winning record in schol history.
Cole Ledford finished with 100 yards rushing to lead a Towns County ground attack that pounded out 230 yards for the game. However, they got rushing touchdowns from four different players -- Zach Davenport, Trent Bradshaw, Andy Chambers, and Harold Cox -- and Davenport also caught a touchdown pass from Trent Bradshaw.
Towns County led 35-7 at halftime. Providence Christian scored a pair of late fourth quarter touchdowns.
