A Gainesville man entered a non-negotiated guilty plea this week to a drug charge in a 2015 case that centered on a sting operation related to a Craiglist ad.
Timothy Wayne Garrett, 53, pleaded guilty Tuesday to criminal attempt to possess a controlled substance with intent to distribute, according to documents from the Superior Court of Hall County.
Following Garrett's arrest on February 6, 2015, Hall County Sheriff's Lt. Scott Ware said Garrett had posted an ad to buy GHB, known as the "date rape" drug.
Investigators, posing as people responding to the ad, arranged a meeting with Garrett, where they previously said he paid $80.00 in exchange for the purported GHB.
Garrett's ten-year sentence includes eight years on probation following the two years of incarceration.
In 2015, authorities said the ad also detailed how Garrett allegedly wanted to use GHB to have a stranger sexually assault a woman, with Garrett taking part.
Under the plea, Garrett was not prosecuted for criminal attempt to commit rape.
