Jackson County EMS and Major Steve Smith of the sheriff's department were recently recognized as Hometown Heroes by the Jackson County Area Chamber of Commerce.
A press release cites Med 6 as well as the on duty supervisor in applauding the award given the EMS.
"Med 6 and the on duty supervisor were called to a location for a unresponsive person," the release says. "Upon EMS arrival patient was in cardiac arrest. Jackson Co EMS crew worked with the patient and successfully revived him. The patient now has a great quality of life and is home with his family. Had EMS not given adequate, high quality care to this patient, he would not be here with his family today. Crew members included Chris Pinckard, Fernando Villalobos and Tylor Murphy."
Smith, the release notes, received the Jackson County Area Chamber of Commerce Hometown Hero Medal of Merit Award
Major Smith has received numerous letters of commendations during his career with the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office for his professionalism and willingness to go above and beyond what is required, according to the release.
In 2016, he was promoted to Chief Deputy.
