The former Hall County Emergency Management Director, fired last week over violation of county policy, said there was no criminal activity in what resulted in his termination.
David Kimbrell, a years-long employee with the county's fire and emergency services departments, was terminated from his job this past Thursday.
"A personal computer of mine backed up to the county network with a file that is considered inappropriate for county computers," Kimbrell wrote in an email to AccessWDUN on Tuesday.
Hall County Public Information Officer Katie Crumley wouldn't elaborate, but confirmed Kimbrell's termination and said the county's findings had been turned over to the Hall County Sheriff's Office.
A spokesman from the sheriff's office confirmed an ongoing investigation to determine if any criminal activity took place. Kimbrell said it didn't.
"I am at fault for the inadvertent policy violation because the file at one time was on my computer (but was deleted several years ago)," Kimbrell stated. "There was no criminal activity and will only result in a significant embarrassment," Kimbrell wrote.
Kimbrell had been emergency management director since 2014. Over the years, he had served as a firefighter, fire marshal and fire chief in the county.
